Work Apron Sewing Class

Skill level: Beginner with working knowledge of a sewing machine.
$20/per person

 

Materials needed: 

Medium to heavy weight woven fabric: cotton types, twill, canvas, denim, some washable home decorator fabric :  54-60” fabric (1 5/8 yd for size Small or Medium, 1 ¾ yd for size Large). 

Notions:  thread, 1” x 10” piece or scrap of interfacing

Equipment/Tools: Sewing machine, pins, fabric scissors, tape measure or ruler, seam ripper

Kwik Sew Pattern 2191 pieces are the basis for this version.  - *Kwik Sew patterns are no longer available except on Ebay or Etsy.  The instructor, however, can trace the 3 pieces necessary for the apron in sizes small (36” bust), medium (40” bust) or large (44” bust).  When you register, please indicate which size you want to make. 

Helpful but will be provided: Iron, ironing surface, long acrylic ruler, and cutting mat.

 

Skills learned: Laying out the pattern, cutting the fabric, and transferring markings. 

Folding and cutting the material to make bias binding, sewing the binding strips together and preparing for application. 

Applying interfacing and constructing and sewing the pockets.

Using french seams to construct the body of the apron. 

Applying and attaching the binding, using a special technique to attach each end for an invisible finish. 

Topstitching.
