Get inspired by the past! In this new program, we will read a picture book biography about a real-life hero, trailblazer, or changemaker, then bring history to life with a fun craft or hands-on activity. From artists and activists to scientists and explorers, each session highlights someone who made a difference in the world.

February Book is Ready to Fly: How Sylvia Townsend Became the Bookmobile Ballerina

Join us for History Makers as we discover the amazing story of Sylvia Townsend, the first African American soloist at the Metropolitan Opera who also shared her love of books as a bookmobile librarian! We'll read Ready to Fly: How Sylvia Townsend Became the Bookmobile Ballerina by Lea Lyon.

After the story, kids will create their own dream mobiles, decorating them with pictures and words representing their own hopes and dreams - just like Sylvia followed hers!

Perfect for elementary-age children. All supplies provided.
