Live Zoom Lecture
On April 23, 1927, an explosion and fire at the Briggs Manufacturing Company in Detroit killed 21 men — most of them African American migrants from the South. Briggs managers and Detroit fire officials called it an “Act of God,” but was it negligence? Join us for the story of this Motor City disaster.
(NOTE: Registration for each History Hounds event closes 3 hours prior to the event time. Registrations completed after those times will not be processed in time for live viewing of the event.)

Registration Instructions:
- Once at the History Hounds website (link above), scroll down to see the "Upcoming Lectures" and click on "Read More" for the particular program of interest.
- Register by clicking on the blue "Register" box.
- Where it asks about membership, select the option that you are "A member of HSM member Organization" and type in the Gary Byker Library name as the Member Organization.
- The remaining information is for you to complete. History Hounds will use the email address you provide to send you a link to the program on the day of the event.
- Lectures are every other Wednesday at 7:00 pm, with programs on the opposite Tuesdays at 12 pm noon.
Note: When you register for your first lecture, the Michigan Historical Society will create a free guest account for you under the email you provide and ask you to set up your own password. You may use this email and password to register for all subsequent programs.
